The Provincial Perinatal Substance Use Program (PPSUP), BC Women’s Hospital + Health Centre, PHSA invites you to attend the Inspiring Change and Collaboration: Perinatal Substance Use Conference 2023, October 26 – 27, 2023, at the Executive Hotel Vancouver Airport, in Richmond, BC. This event is offered in-person only, there is not option to participate virtually.
Supporting birthers impacted by substance use requires collaboration and coordination across healthcare, social services, legal, and policy sectors. The “Inspiring Change and Collaboration” conference aims to highlight collaborative efforts across cross-sectoral partners, including people with lived and living experience to ensuring that pregnant and/or parenting individuals have access to compassionate, trauma-informed and culturally safe care.
Coming together over the two days will provide an opportunity to learn about perinatal substance use data and issues, best practice, and network to collectively to advance the continuum of care for pregnant and/or parenting people using substances.
The Inspiring Change and Collaboration: Perinatal Substance Use Conference 2023 topics include:
- Contemporary trends and issues in perinatal substance use
- Evidence-informed, wise and best practice in perinatal care
- Emerging policy and system-level changes (e.g. decriminalization, safer supply, child welfare)
- Truth and reconciliation
- Indigenous approaches to healing and wellness
- Harm reduction and recovery-oriented approaches
- Stigma and discrimination
- Peers’ perspectives and peer-led substance use initiatives
- Innovative approaches to delivering care
- Enhancing social support for people using substances (e.g. housing)
